The Dutch were exposed to Nazi propaganda even before war broke out. Many believed this propaganda but many others still believed in maintaining Netherlands neutrality. Things escalated at a great pace and it was already too late before they realised that nothing could be changed.
The situation began to deteriorate even more as the enemies' grip tightened. Many people were arrested. Some to go and work in the weapons factories, others because they belonged to a particular ethnic group. Only a small group had the courage to fight back.
The permanent exhibition is about the Second World War and the resistance in Rotterdam. Displays of objects, memorabilia, photographs, posters and texts tell the story from beginning to end. Starting with the German propaganda and the mobilisation, continuing with the raid of May 1940 and the resistance and ending with the winter starvation and liberation.

The exhibition is in Dutch, guidebooks in English and German are available.
